Small to Medium Enterprises
Introduction
As with large companies, the legislation and regulations on the handling of electronic and electrical waste present SMEs with both threats and opportunities. The threats are the legal, financial and reputation penalties of non-compliance; the opportunities are the spur to rethink design, production and distribution to create products which can be handled more easily and at lower cost at the end of their useful lives.
What we do
Our wholly-owned Producer Compliance Scheme, A1 Compliance, offers a full WEEE compliance service. A1 Compliance is registered with, and approved by, the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
Put simple, by registering with A1 Compliance, you transfer your legal and financial obligations under the WEEE Directive to us, leaving you free to concentrate on your core business. It becomes our responsibility to ensure that the products you put on the market are appropriately managed at the end of their lives. That gives us the incentive to continually drive down our own costs, and the ability to pass lower costs to you.
Our track record
A1 Compliance has members, in sectors ranging from GPS manufacturers and amplifier importers to garden centre’s and computer manufacturers. Between them, they generate hundreds of tonnes of WEEE per year.
Since we began operating at the implementation of the Directive in July 2007, we have consistently focused not just on cost but also on customer service: our members understand that the value you receive is more important than the price you pay.
